Completed quilts:
As of Nov. 2013, I have 19 finishes out of 47 that I have assigned numbers to.  Most of the unfinished projects are started but there are a few that are only kitted, or partially kitted.  Many are ready to be quilted.  Some are even layered and pinned.  Soon....I hope.

Quilt #030
Began: ca 05/2009, Finished: ca 07/2009
60 x 72
Recipient: my nephew, Joseph
The third of the quilts for the fellowship group military project.  This went to my own nephew who is in the Air Force. I designed it myself with some simple blocks and used some older fabrics from my stash.

Quilt #029
Began: ca 05/2009, Finished: ca 07/2009
"Simple Tribute"
62 x 62
The second of the three military quilts I personally pieced.  I love Log Cabin patterns and this one in patriotic colors is very striking. Did you notice there's cute little star that looks more like an X at the four corners of the center block? I found this pattern in American Patchwork & Quilting, June 2003 . Very scrappy of reds, whites and blues from my stash. This photo is only of the top as the other many hands finished it while I was away on vacation and I didn't get to photograph the finished quilt. It went to a soldier daughter of a couple in our church fellowship group.

Quilt #028
Began: 04/10/2009, Finished: before 07/2009
"Patriotic Rails"
56 x 65 3/8
Some of us ladies in my church fellowship group decided to make some lap quilts for the military members who were either in our group or the family member of someone in our group. This is one I did the piecing on and others helped with the other elements of the project. The pattern for this project came from American Patchwork & Quilting, August 2005. I really liked the adaptation of the skinny 'rail' used in this rail fence pattern. I could make this one again. These military quilts were also tied rather than quilted otherwise due to time constraints. We needed/wanted to finish the project quickly and give them all out at the same time. Some were mailed and a number of them were displayed and handed out during our group's Sunday morning meeting.

Quilt #027
Began: 10/2008, Finished: before 02/2009
Lap size, square + a matching table runner
A many hands project for our pastor and his wife.  The block is a Jack In The Pulpit.  Three of us chose and agreed upon the fabrics, I pieced, another hand-quilted, another provided an embroidered label, and I finished with the binding.

Quilt #022
Began: 09/16/2006, Finished: 04/20/2013
"Cumberland Mountain" Fons & Porter For the Love of Quilting magazine
 58.5" x 70"
Recipient: my friend Lois
My friend had given me several bags of usable fabric when she was decluttering her tiny apartment, and over the years she has been a faithful friend and house- and pet-sitter, so I decided to make this quilt for her as she has ancestral roots pertaining to the Cumberland Mountains and the pattern being scrappy made it easy to incorporate many of the very same fabrics she gave me.  I made the quilt slightly smaller than the published pattern.

Quilt #014
Began: 03/13/2004, Finished: 03/25/2004
"He Knows Them All By Name"
20" square
Recipient:my son Nick
Made at a class through my quilt guild, with Shelley Swanland, using her Cathedral Windows method.  I used star-shaped, shanked buttons with silver star-shaped paint on them, in each of the five center seam joints...helped to disguise my less-than-perfect joints!  Oh, that's a design element, and planned, right, ok.

Quilt #013
Began: 12/12/2003, Finished: 10/17/2004
Quilt In A Day: Double Pinwheel by Eleanor Burns
67.5 x 78.5 (before binding)
Recipient: my sister, Barie
She likes pink.  Lesson learned: scrappy is fine, but all blades within a block should be the same, the pinwheel blades got lost, at least in the photo.  Maybe I should call it "Scattered Pinwheels"?

Quilt #012
 Began: 05/01/2003, Finished: 10/29/2003
"Prairie Meadows" pattern published in Quiltmaker Nov/Dec 2000, p.56
89 x 89
Recipient: unknown, but possibly missionaries in Albania
I did all the piecing and then was helped by others with layering, tying and binding as this was a project for our church's Missionary Quilts group.  The original sample in the magazine was done in red, navy, cream and tan.  I did this one in black, red, dark and light grays.

Quilt #007
Began: 12/02/2000, Finished: 10/24/2003
Christmas Stack-n-Whack
42 x 47
Another pattern, "Morning Star Wall Quilt" from Magic Stack-n-Whack Quilts by Bethany Reynolds. Another lesson learned:  give careful consideration to the amount of heavy 'paint' on fabric when doing blocks where pieces come to a point in the center.  This fabric had heavy gold 'paint', and was a bear to work with when joining multiple seams.

Quilt #006
Began: 11/06/2000, Finished: 11/04/2002
"Nick's Planets"
56 x 64
Recipient: my son Nick
Pattern from Magic Stack-n-Whack Quilts by Bethany Reynolds, started in a class at one of our then local quilting stores.  Another learning area: while there is a variety in the blocks from the cutting, it isn't as dramatic as a bigger, bolder print would have been....such as the fabric I found for the backing!

Quilt #005
Began:  11/2000, Finished: ca 2010
Christmas Tree III (and last!)
36 x 36
Resides in my cupboard until the Christmas season.
I opted to change colors for this one, going with darker shades for the tree, more neutral rather than whites for the background, and a blue inner border rather than the red.  You can tell my start and finish dates that I was in no hurry to finish this one.  I also decided to experiment with different methods of attaching the ornaments, so I believe they are temporarily only pinned in the photo.

Quilt #004
"Under The Oaks"
Began:  10/15/2000, Finished: 10/17/2003
44 x 56
Resides on a large blank wall above our fireplace.
The pattern is "Friendship Quarters" by American Legacy Quilts: Mary Jane Best pattern.

Quilt #003
Christmas Tree II
Began:  09/20/2000, Finished: 11/23/2000
36 x 36
Recipient: my parents
This one is nearly identical to #002, both were started the same day.  My parents have since given it back to me as they desire to downsize.

Quilt #002
Christmas Tree I
Began:  09/20/2000, Finished: 11/02/2000
36 x 36
Recipient: my daughter
A free beginner quilting class was offered at my church and this was the result.

Quilt #001
"Do I Really Want To Quilt?"
Began: ca. June 1999, Finished: 03/15/2003
40.5 x 40.5
A wall hanging sampler from Start Quilting With Alex Anderson.  This was my very first quilt.  I had no fabric stash and I wanted to make the sampler because it would give me experience in a variety of blocks.  In the book, there are no separate fabric quantities for just the sampler, and I didn't know how to calculate, so I ended up with nearly enough fabric to do every quilt in the book, which started my stash.  All of the fabrics were from either Joann's or Walmart. I used most of the excess fabric to make additional blocks which I put together as placemats since I have also used this as a table cloth.
